Used/See Description
This 1991 Smeal Aerial/Quint was custom built for the Grinnell Fire Department and served as our primary aerial apparatus until 2019, when it was replaced with a newer ladder truck. The truck remained fully functional as a reserve unit and was maintained on a regular schedule throughout its service life.

Cab: Seats 3 with driver inside cab (lap seatbelts only) with Rt seat having a SCBA mount. Has 2 rear-facing (non-enclosed) SCBA mount seats with lap seatbelts
Chassis/Engine: Detroit Diesel 8V engine rated at 450 HP
Transmission: Automatic
Pump: Waterous 1500 GPM, drive-shaft driven
Water Tank: 200-gallon galvanized tank
Generator: Onan onboard generator – operational, powers all 120V outlets and scene lighting
Aerial: 75-foot Smeal ladder with hydraulic outriggers and switched PTO control. Has a 1500gpm capable ladder waterway with an Akron 1000gpm electronic fog-nozzle at the tip for water-tower operations with controls at the tip and control-box (functional)
Hose: Includes approximately 800 feet of 5-inch large-diameter supply hose
Tires: Recently replaced, good tread with plenty of life remaining
Pump Panel: Manual screw-type throttle control with Flowminder digital flow meter
Pump Testing: Passed full pump testing in 2024
Condition Notes:
All hydraulics are functional. However, the aerial hydraulic rams will need new seals.
Normal wear and tear for age. Apparatus has been stored indoors since new.
This vehicle would make an excellent candidate for a reserve truck, training unit, or rural department seeking an affordable aerial/quint.
