Description

An original Purdue University Boilermakers interior glass window featuring Purdue's distinctive front-facing Boilermaker Special locomotive logo.

The substantial glass panel features a distinctive silver-toned, semi-opaque finish, contrasted by the bold black Purdue Boilermaker Special locomotive graphic. The logo represents Purdue's longstanding Boilermaker Special tradition and is the secondary athletic mark introduced by Purdue Athletics in 2012 as part of a Nike-associated refresh of Purdue's athletic identity. The design depicts the Boilermaker Special in a bold, front-facing configuration with the locomotive's distinctive smokestack, boiler and cowcatcher prominently incorporated into the design.

The Boilermaker Special itself has deep roots in Purdue history. The first Boilermaker Special was created in 1939 and debuted in 1940, becoming one of Purdue's most recognizable athletic traditions and a physical representation of the university's Boilermaker identity.

This panel was originally installed as the glass window in an interior door at Purdue University and has since been removed from service. It provides an unusual opportunity to acquire an authentic piece of Purdue architectural and athletic history rather than a commercially produced reproduction or piece of contemporary merchandise.

Approximate dimensions: 27"W x 3/8"D x 41"T. 38 pounds.

Condition: Used, with signs of age and prior installation. The glass exhibits surface wear consistent with its former use as an interior door panel. The surrounding mounting/frame material shows evidence of removal from its original installation. Please examine the photograph carefully for additional details regarding condition.

A distinctive piece of Purdue history, this glass panel would make an especially interesting addition to a Purdue memorabilia collection, Boilermaker-themed office, fan cave, or collection of university architectural artifacts.
