1803 Eagles ($10) are found with either large or small stars on the reverse. In the years following David Akers' writeup in 1980, sufficient interest has developed in the two varieties that they are now recognized by PCGS and NGC, and the respective population reports give a good estimate as to their relative rarity.
This is an amazingly high level for any early U.S. coin, especially for a large-size gold coin. This indicates that many were saved by collectors, to whom we give thanks for their prescient thinking.
Full struck examples of this variety are non-existent. All come with weak stars, especially on the lower left; the rare example will have strong details on the arrows and the eagle's claw which holds them.
The 1803 is perhaps twice as rare as the 1799 or 1801, and it is considerably more difficult to obtain in choice or gem uncirculated condition.

An 1803 $10 Small Reverse Stars coin CANNOT have 13 stars on the reverse. Here’s the rule — no exceptions: Small Reverse Stars = 6 stars on the reverse Large Reverse Stars = 13 stars on the reverse So if the reverse truly has 13 stars, then: 👉 It is a Large Reverse Stars variety 👉 The slab label is wrong Can you explain this? 02/19/2026 02:15:46 AM

- Shipping and Handling fees depend on the size and weight of the package. Due to increased USPS rates, expect $10 for smaller packages. For example, a few coins that weigh up to 4 ounces will cost approximately $10 to ship. We also use flat rate boxes when they are the least expensive method.
- We will combine shipping when possible.
- Insurance increases shipping fees. We use a third party insurance for all coins and we use the final value of the combined purchase for the insured value.
- The Price of Silver is skyrocketing, which means shipping & insurance is going to be more expensive. Standard shipping covers up to $100, however, if you win a few Morgan dollars, chances are your final winning value is going to be over $100. So, please understand that shipping with full insurance is going to be higher these days.
- All Gold coins ship with full insurance and signature required, therefore shipping and handling fees for Gold Coins will be higher than standard ground or priority mail prices.

Property will be shipped via USPS or UPS, full insurance is provided via a third party insurance agency. Gold coins must be shipped with signature required. We strive to ship items within 24 hours of payment, Monday-Friday and encourage you to track your packages for accurate delivery information. Bidders will be locked unless a prior arrangement has been made for any item not paid for within the five (5) business days allowed and stated on the Buyer's Certificate. Buyer will receive separate emails with additional tracking information.
We do not ship to P.O. boxes or internationally.
